The Perfect Trading Day

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Today’s post is for Friday’s session December 16, 2011 as I had the perfect trading day.

There was some pretty good moves early on in Friday’s session in the S&P’s, but mid day things just went to sleep. I took only one trade and was actively participating in the market for 45 minutes and in the trade for 30 minutes and closed the last of my scaled out position for around 5 points. The perfect trading day, with little struggle and only one tick of draw down for the session.

For Monday’s session, I do think we will see a number I put out for Thursday’s session 1198/97 in the S&P futures but this time it will be in the active session. We hit that number called and got the desired reaction of a instant 22 S&P point rally of which I did say would happen and it did on cue, but do believe we will need to see that number now for the regular session.

I won’t be overly anxious about seeing that come to pass but just think it will come Monday. We are in a pretty good position to hit that in pretty quick fashion but again think we should see some strong buying power lift prices back up and would be looking for an up week in the markets overall. Let me post my day’s trades below.

Currently the S&P futures are at 1210 and 1197/98 is 12-13 points away, so don’t be surprised to see that move early on as it should trade in the regular session to that point. This is just my opinion and not trade or investment advise, so be sure to do your own research and analysis.

I have a larger tick chart here to fit in the whole day, but no trade indicators.  I have been trying to drive home the point that the trading method is not indicator driven and has all its own basis for taking the trades or not. It is hard to not talk about it and not say how things work, so I show something that traders who look on can identify with, trade indicators. They are consistent with the trading method but are not the basis for it. It is all very specific and clear with entries, stops and targets.

I wanted traders who are learning the method to rely on there ability to read the price apart from the indicators and do training several times per week for members to drive that point home. When you put some of the indicators back up, you will see that they confirm very nicely to give you the same exact points that the method will give you on own method analysis. I hope that is clear.

The goal is to get traders to be able to read any price chart and have confidence to trade it if they choose. It can be any style of price charts, candle charts, minute charts, tick charts, point and figure charts, range charts, it does not matter. Again, it can be in any time frame as well.

This can be very valuable when looking at one’s long term portfolio of stocks and mutual funds if you have them. The same would apply to those as well. This is a skill that can be learned. There is more than one way to view and understand the markets and the approach I take is different and not rarely seen if ever in its combination of techniques. It is my method approach that is unique to me, built up over decades, literally.

Many traders use different styles that can include some of the various bar charts as mentioned. Let me reiterate, you can use candle charts, range charts, tick charts, minute charts, as that part really does not matter. I use tick charts and build the screen with more than one time frame to get the chart to view as just one screen and time frame and that is apart of the trading method.

If you have 60 to 90 minutes a day, a computer, risk capital, the Internet, mental discipline and “Sniper Day Trading”, I believe you may have what it takes to attain financial and time freedom by Day Trading the E-Mini Futures.

Emini Course and Mentoring Program

In my Emini Trading Course, I show you how to utilize a “Sniper Trading” type approach using my tested method to earn at least 2 points per day from the markets. You could learn how to make consistent profits in good or bad markets. Our method focuses on high probability trading, delivering you your points for the day. Day trading for a living does not have to be hard, if you have the right method, plan, course of action and someone to explain it to you in a live market trading environment.

Price action, is driven by emotional buying and selling decisions for a variety of reasons, all of which are present in the current price at any given moment. Our job, is to find the turning points that exist in each session through precision market timing. These turning points are present every day the markets are open. Sniper Day trading will teach you to clearly spot where these turning points are, using a trading mastery type approach. These points show up like consistent “Sniper” shots on your trading screen and are clearly defined by using the custom tools I have created.

We strive to teach our students to learn price action apart from indicators or tools, but they are helpful to point out what may not be seen in the beginning. I am sure what I have in full is not being taught by anyone and is unique to me and the many years I have spent developing and now clearly defining the “Sniper Day Trading Method”. The signals generated by my method will produce the same signals to anyone who is following it, there is really no gray area, only which trades you decide to take and which you let go by.

Sniper Day Trading Method

We trade with tick data and use multiple time frames in timing our trade entries. I have three different styles I trade and bring them up as the price action dictates. One is a “Scalp Trading Method”, (T-1 Trade) that is very accurate in picking up 2,3 or 4 ticks on the S&P. My stops are such, that this approach averages a one to one risk/reward ratio, but enjoys a very high percentage “Win/Loss” ratio. This is bread and butter for me.
The second style enjoys the benefit of my “Precision Turning Points” model, (T-2 Trade) and is usually traded with multiple contracts. The first part is scaled out around 1 point, which quickly brings me to a no loose position and the second half is usually allowed to run. I have four incredible ways to get out, all of which act independently of each other, but are uncannily similar in their results.

The last, is a “Pyramid Trading Method”, that when conditions are right, you are able to keep your first risk small but scale into the trade, adding positions in the direction of the trend, but only at very low risk entry points, keeping your stops down to 1 S&P point. Each one of these methods are very clearly explained in my 80 page trading manual and followed up in the DVD training part of my course. They will also be gone over in our live trading sessions.

While only needing to pull 2 points after commission per day out of the market, (8 ticks) catching a few scalp trades or a T-2 trade, is really all you need to hit your daily goal. I believe in setting realistic goals, which increase your chances to meet them. By having a clear mind, a solid trading plan, with position sizing risk limits and rock solid money management, you come that much closer to trade your way to financial and time freedom.
Examples of two typical trading days back to back, applying the Sniper Day Trading Method. It only took about 20 minutes to get my daily goal plus on both of these days.

Mental Discipline and Trading Psychology. I have told you what I can offer to you, but this is not all you will need for success. I am convinced that my method, custom indicators and complete approach could make the aspiring trader profitable on a regular basis, but do you have what it takes? Trading psychology plays a huge roll in all traders, whether they know it or not. You have forces constantly working against you. Success is only going to become a reality to you, if you have the qualities needed to pull this off. What you are going to need is * Discipline * Patience * Ability to follow rules * Control your fears * Get a grip on personal greed. Frequently, I talk about this in my daily blog, because they are too often why traders fail to reach their goals.
I offer a lot of support in this area as well, if you are a struggling trader and want to change, I have the tools, method and know how to likely turn you around, so that you can create the consistent income, free up your time and fulfill your dreams in becoming a successful day trader.

Mental Exercises

In my program I address some of these issues in a series of “Mental Training Exercises” that I have put together. They are designed to get your mind thinking and believing that trading for a living and meeting your daily trading goal is normal, natural and the only outcome you will accept. The titles in the first series are; * Financial Freedom * Positive Risk Taking * Holding your concentration while trading * Achieving your Trading Goals. The titles in the second series are; * Overcoming Trading Obstacles * Controlling Emotions while Trading * Overcoming the Fear of Failure * Creating Hope & Success.

These I believe are very powerful and are in, “the first person” and will become personal to you. They are a form of Neuro-Linguistic programming that can take you farther and bring you closer to meeting your trading goals. They are, in written form and in audio CD and created by me. My plans are to continue to expand these in the future and make any new additions available to students who come on board, all at no extra charge. These training series are specific to traders and cover issues they face.

Solutions for traders, Sniper Day Trading

I realize that not everyone is born with all the qualities a successful trader will need, but I feel it can be learned if you want it bad enough. Ask yourself, how much do you want to become a consistent successful trader ? The answer to that is going to make all the difference in the world.

I know personally the things that hold traders back from bringing it all together and I know exactly what to do to help them change. I believe I can help the struggling trader as well as the trader who has never done this before.
I can set you on a course that is tailored to your experience level and walk you through everything needed and expected. The good part is, you won’t have to go it along. If you have any question, I can not only answer it, but help you apply it, to get the results you will need. Our daily goal is not to hard to hit, 2 points + per day. We can take a conservative approach to help you get that goal regularly.

If you are honest and know you need help and are willing to work hard and change what ever you have to, then I am sure I can help. Trading for a living is possible, but you need to do different, be different and think different from the majority of other traders. If you first commit to yourself these things, then I will commit to you, which will bring you one step closer to the success that we all strive for. Lastly, I want to assure anyone with doubts, my method, straight up works. The only question that remains is, will you move forward and decide to make it work for “YOU”.

Price Action Day Trading

“Price Action Day Trading”, is the key to your long term success. The markets do something everyday that is consistent since they began trading, over one hundred years ago. It exists in all time frames and gets played out on trading screens across the globe each day. It is important to understand and learn, “good price structure” and how it is built. That is what I teach and that is what students get when they partner with me at Sniper Day Trading. The key is learning what to do and when to do it and why. If you don’t know the answers to those questions you will eventually fall short. Many traders use indicators to help them and that is OK. I have them and use them also, but I do not base my trading decisions on the indicators. I base it on good price structure and trade setups that happen over and over, day after day. Traders and investors are very predictable, they base many of there trading decisions on emotion. Knowing slightly ahead, how they will react when certain prices are reached and breached, give us the trading edge we look for. With that said, the indicators magically line up with our trading decisions which can give us the added confidence to put our money on the line.

Below is a typical trading day where you will see the trading, “Turning Point”. I have stripped away everything from the screen except two things. There is much more, but I just want to show you that the indicators line up with our turning points. Which came first the chicken or the egg. The chicken and that is price. Price is always first and the indicators are second. That being said, the indicators can help traders see what is already on the trading screen. I hope this explanation helps clarify in the minds of seeking traders that what we have and do is real and works.

Important Notice – Risk Disclaimer:

Futures Options trading has large potential rewards, but also large potential risk. You must be aware of the risks and be willing to accept them in order to invest in the futures and options markets. Don’t trade with money you can’t afford to lose. This is neither a solicitation nor an offer to Buy/Sell futures or options. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those discussed on this web site. The past performance of any e mini trading system or methodology is not necessarily indicative of future results.

Daytrading Involves High Risks and You Can Lose A Lot of Money.

Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain inherent limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, since the trades have not actually been executed, the results may have under or over-compensated for the impact, if any, certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated e mini trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown.

Additional Cautions

There are no guarantees or certainties in trading. Reliability of trading signals for mechanical systems are in probabilities only. Trading involves hard work, risk, discipline and the ability to follow rules and trade through any tough periods during the methods off times (and all methods or systems have off times) – If you are looking for guarantees, trading is not for you. Most people lose trading. One of the reasons is that they are not consistent and lack discipline. A method of system can help you become consistent, BUT you have to stick to the method like a formula. The ability to be disciplined and control your emotions is even more important than any technical indicators a trader may use. Worrying about the money aspect of trades (which is an emotion) can contribute to and cause a trader to make errors. It is important to trade only with true risk capital. Before you start trading, it is very important that you know what it is that you are doing and what you are trading. It is similar to trading stocks but at the same time, very different. There is a definition of terms for those who need to know the basic language in the glossary.

We are trading the S&P 500 E-Mini Futures contract. This represents a shadow or a mirror of movement in the S&P 500 cash index. Traders and institutions across the globe buy and sell contracts with each other. For many, it is a hedge against a portfolio they own and sell contracts equal to the value of their portfolio as a form of insurance. Pension funds and large institutions do the same as well as mutual fund managers.

They are buying and selling protection in the form of contracts against the Index. To do this they need a very liquid pool of futures contracts to draw from and that is where the trader comes into the picture. He or she may not want to hedge their portfolio, but may want to speculate on the future direction of the market. Traders are an essential ingredient to offer the liquidity that the institutions need to quickly move into and out of the market.

I once heard a man ask a trader what he does for a living and his answer was, “I am an asset liquidity provider, how about you”. That statement is true. That is what we do.

Each contract traded represents 50 times the current value of the index. Lets say that the Index is 1000, a nice round number. Multiply 1000 x 50 = $ 50,000 and that is the value of one contract. If the index was trading at 1100 the value of the contract would be $ 55,000. You need to put up a deposit for the right to buy and hold a contract. If you hold the position over night, you will need about $ 5,000 deposit. If you close the position at the end of the trading session the margin will go down to about $ 1,250 for one contract.(day trade margin)

At Sniper Day Trading, we trade for a modest daily goal most days, between 2-4 points. The S&P 500 emini futures trades in ticks. There are 4 ticks that make up one point. Each tick is $12.50 and since there is 4 ticks to a point, one point is $50, 4 x $12.50= $50. If our daily goal is capture 2-4 points we are trading for $100-$200 dollars per contract traded. With an opening balance of $5,000 you could conceivably buy or sell 4 contract. So to use the example above, 4 contracts traded x 100 to 200 each contract, you would be making $400-800 per day.

We don’t recommend that traders start trading the maximum, but start at the smallest and work your way up. It is possible, averaging 2 points per day that in 4 weeks you could be trading at 4 contracts and bringing in the kind of money above. You can stay at that level or increase it over time. What ever you feel comfortable with. You may decide to go slower and reach that level in 2 or 3 months and that is OK. The main thing is averaging that 2 points per day over an extended period. It is very possible, people are doing that and more all over the country and you could to.

On the main page we talk a lot about discipline, patients, and focus, all essential things for reaching your goals. But first you need to know how to trade. I offer that in my course and if you decide to become part of the family, I will see to it that you understand my trading method and how to apply it.

When we put on a trade, we teach how to enter at just the right moment as the momentum will carry you higher or lower which ever way to you are trading.

Make Money as prices go up or down

Which brings me to my next point. You can make money in either direction, up or down. Often, prices go down a lot faster that they do going up. The principal works the same. When you put on a trade that is going up, we would call that a LONG TRADE and when you put on a trade that is going down, we call that a SHORT TRADE. We teach how to take these trades in a clear concise way. No gray area.

When we take a Long Trade, we Buy to Open / Sell to Close

When we take a Short Trade, we Sell to Open / Buy to Close

There is always someone on the other side of the trade to take the position, the price is the only thing that changes. If you sold the futures or “Shorted” the market at the S&P price of 1091 and you covered the trade by buying it back at a lower price at 1088, you just made a 3 point profit of $50 X 3 points = $ 150 dollars per contract traded.

Remember that each tick is broken up in quarters and 4 quarters make up 1 point. You can think of it like 4 quarters make a dollar, but in this case, it makes $50, because each tick is worth $12.50.

Commission cost for the transaction varies on the broker but the typical costs is about $2.00 to buy one contract and $2 to sell one contract. The complete transaction is called “round-turn”, buying, then selling.

TIME CHARTS

When building our charts on the screen, we use tick data. Tick data is different than time data. Trading in a one minute bar chart is the smallest increment of time that you can use. When using TICK CHARTS, you can create a much more detailed view of the trading history. It is through this trading history that we are able to draw up our entries in this much more detailed view. It allows us to enter at the exact point, Sniper Style, to hit our mark. Get in, Get out, Get done.

We teach precise entry and exit points using these tick charts and with the ongoing training you will always see the method applied to current data.

Above, is an example of a Candle Stick Chart. These are typical setups for us, as you can see the entries short and then long. The first trade was good for 1 to 2 points and the second good for the same or higher.

I usually follow bar charts that have an open, high, low and close to them, as shown above. Some people like using candle stick charts and that is a matter of preference. Candle charts have a wider body and make it a little easier to see the open, high, low and close, but using tick charts, often we need the screen room to see the complete patterns developing as well as one feature that I use to help visually see the change in direction. Often, this change in direction matches the other components of the method which helps to confirm our entry, LONG or SHORT.

Different Types of Orders

There are three main types of orders used in our style of trading. There are “Market Orders”, “Limit Orders” and “Stop Orders”. I use all three of them at different times for different reasons and explain it all in my course and mentoring program.

A market order, in our style of trading is typically used to close positions that are still open. Others may use them to start a position but we don’t often do that. It better serves us to use this order when we have an open position close to our stop loss and decide it is better to close the position and the protective stop at once. Both done with one click of the mouse at the same time.

A “Limit Order”, is an order to buy or sell at the specific price that we specify. See the example below. There is a blue column, the “Bid Size” and red column, the “Ask Size” This is where I place my orders. By clicking inside the blue column, price 1091.50, I am willing to buy at that price only. When contracts become available from the other side, the red column, my order is filled and I will have gone “Long the S&P emini futures market”. The opposite is true for “Selling Short”. This is an example of buying or selling with a “Limit Order”.

The last order type, “Stop Orders”, are usually used to protect a trader from incurring a greater loss than what he has predetermined ahead of time. For me, it is 1 point or less on all trades I put on. ($50 dollars per contract traded or less). That is the maximum loss and is set automatically at the time I click the order to buy. No need to do anything else. You can set predefined limit order targets and they can go up at the same time as your order entry as well. One click of the mouse and the rest of the entire process is complete. You can even stagger your “Limit Order Targets” if you trade more than one contract, say 1 point and 2 points. If the first one gets hit and filled, your stop loss will automatically adjust itself to only protect now the remaining half of your open position. Nothing else needs to be done, but just the one click order entry, period.

This is a very nice feature for those who may lack discipline in placing their stops and targets when and where they should after they enter the market. You can even use the one click feature just explained and use a “Trailing Stop Loss”. This will automatically move your protective Stop Loss up with say a rising market. You can set a trigger point, say its one point. When you reach that one point level you sell half your first position, every tick the market rises from there, your stop will rise by that much, keeping a 4 tick stop position. If the market had moved up 3 points quickly and came back 1 point, you would automatically sell your remaining position at 2 points, locking in your profit. This is because you preprogrammed it to do just that. This again is a great way to capture more profit in a fast moving market all automatically. The only thing that starts the process is just the one click of the mouse. Done. Very Cool. I, most often do it manually, but that is me. I can show you how to set this upin a blink of an eye and teach you to effectively use this feature.

Different Types Of Trading

There are different types of trading. The three most common, “Day Trading”, “Swing Trading” and “Position Trading”. Day Trading is what we do, because we never hold any position over night and make a few trades inside the daily session. Swing Trading, will carry positions over-night and hold those positions for several days. Position Trading, will hold similar trades but for several weeks or months.

Inside of Day Trading, there are several approaches as well. We look at three main tick charts, separated by small, medium and large time frames. Depending on the traders preference, if he or she has one, we can tailor our program to match your current trading style, or mirror what I am using for my trading. In our first meeting together, I will be able to help you discover what is the best time frame for you to start with. Naturally, I will show you how I set up my charts and fully explain the way that I trade. After that, we can go from there.

Scalp Trading

Scalp Trading, is often misunderstood. There is really no set definition that will clearly define it. It may mean one thing to someone and something else to another. That said, what I most often do is Scalp Trade the S&P 500 futures emini market. You can trade other markets like the Russell, the NASDAQ, or the Dow Jones. Each has an emini futures market that is liquid and very trade-able.

When the trading range is very narrow, scalping 2, 3 or 4 ticks, may be all the market safely gives you, without waiting around hours for a good trade setup. This is how I would define Scalp Trading.

With our base daily goal of 2 points or 8 ticks, you only really need say, 1 trade for 1 point and two trades for 3 ticks and that would also cover commissions and you are done for the day.

The setups are the same in the smallest time frame, as compared to the highest time frame, because the market is “Fractal” in nature. That means the same patterns and setups occur in all time frames across the board, showing a trading symmetry that is often seen in nature, below is an example of that.

With my trading approach, we are able to capture what the market is giving us. If the trading range is expanding and large swings are showing up, we can capture those moves for multiple point returns.

Scalp Trading, gives you the ability to save time in your trading, by getting in getting out and getting done with it and on to other things. I don’t trade all day, like many do. This style of trading offers the “Time Freedom” that many covet. Having the Trading Discipline to walk away after hitting our Day Trading Goal is key in keeping the struggle to a minimum.

Getting what you need from the market, is like shopping for fresh meat and produce at your local supermarket. If you try to stock up on too much, it will go bad and you will lose it all. I find the same true in trading, getting what you need for today is a better approach and produces trading discipline, controls greed and keeps the traders struggle manageable. It is a lot easier to get 2-4 point in a day verses 8-10 points in a day. When you are not able to reach this high trading goal, it will produce frustration and feelings of failure can creep in, derailing all of your efforts.

Controlling Fear and Greed

Many traders just starting out, soon discover that they have almost what seems like uncontrollable trading emotions. They find it difficult to stay focused and maintain control. Often, traders find themselves trading with their minds to focused on the money. That is a sure-fire way to slow your progress and often ruin it entirely.

Most traders have gone through this, but most don’t know how to break the bonds of these powerful emotions, Fear and Greed while Day Trading. The good news is, I do know and is very much apart of the Sniper Trading approach. These are things that I uncover and address to my students and take this part very seriously. Starting out, many are not even aware of these dangers, but that is my job to prepare you for any unforeseen problems that can come between you and your modest daily trading goal each day.

Learn Day Trading Skills – offer – Through Sniper Day Trading!

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Today is Friday January 22nd, and the sell-off continues.

Well, the only thing I can say is, I am not surprised with today’s price action. The market is doing everything it would normally do after a break in formation, as I layed out in yesterday’s blog post.

There may be a bounce somewhere in here, but time will tell. I know there are people out there that love to buy the dips. Engrained by the media and such, you have the sheep step up to the plate, ”FOR SHEARING”.

I did not see the news, but I can only imagine. I see the market through purely a technical lens and reading moves as they unfold. It is easier than trying to predict far in advance. With the break two days ago, it was not hard to imagine or expect the kind of downward price action we have seen. Institutions, investors and traders have their stops at those key support points for a reason, to protect themselves against a sell-off. Once the first domino was tossed, the next one gets hit and there you go. I am sure we have all seen the domino effect, that is what just happened the last couple of days.

At some point, there will be the brave, to step up and buy, thinking they are getting a good deal and maybe they are, but it is risky. The S&P is now in an area of support. It is the same area that I was looking at, but on the Dow Jones. That index traded below where I thought support would come in today, but the S&P over-road the support by breaking to the similar area where it now may try to find support. If I had called the support for the S&P yesterday, I would have used the area close to where we are now.

The S&P price of 1085 was hit 5 times over the past couple of months which may be a temporary spot for the market to pause. Currently we are at 1091.  If we trade past that, you will probably see a whole new wave of selling come in and we could find ourselves down to the S&P 1028 level. The middle of the range as I point out yesterday is Dow 8100 to 8600 and S&P 910 to 855.

Pretty scary stuff, but this is what I was warning about for some time. When the formation breaks, you will see the sell-off, sharp and deep.

When we bounce, where ever that is, what happens after that, is going to tell us how quick all of this may take. A slow gradual process will probably be better for most people.

On, to other topic’s;  In todays trading I was only at it, for 10 minutes and picked up my daily goal. I did mark up some trades on the screen after that for a little while and picked up some nice turning points. I may trade for a little higher point return next week, but with this Monday being a holiday and Tuesdays session flat. I wanted to make sure I picked up my net goal for the week safely and I did that. So, next week, I may trade a little more. Also, I needed a little cooling off period for the bad trades I took on Tuesday. It all worked out well and look forward to next week.

Below, I marked up my screen with the turning points as I did yesterday but I took the indicator off. I just have the signals as they were generated. I screened out only a few of the very obvious no trades, but marked up most of the trades generated just by that one indicator as I did yesterday. I look at a lot more than indicators, I look at price action through its structure, to see if the components are there for the trade. The indicators, only confirm what I see already through the price. That is how it works for me. I know others use it the other way around. Using the indicators to confirm price. I don’t teach that or do that. If you learn how good price structure looks like, you will be looking for something very specific. When the indicators confirm your timing, it can give the learning trader a little more confidence to take the trade. But over time, seeing the same patterns again and again, we learn to look for what makes up a good trade just by its structure.

Anyone who wants to learn more, can. I do teach this as the “Sniper Day Trading Method” designed by me.

It is a collection of techniques and repeatable price pattern structures that happen with a great deal of consistency. Using the full spectrum of indicators I have on top of the price as well as under the price, will only make the job easier to see what is already present on the basic clean chart itself. This stuff speaks out its own language as the swings taking place, each and every day.

There is something here for everyone. If you like to scalp trade as I do, trading with the trend and counter trend, I have that. If you prefer to only trade in the direction of the dominant trend we can set that up, if you like to trade higher time frame charts and go for a higher profit loss ratios, we can customize that for you. The principles are all the same. This will work great on Stocks as well as Forex currency pairs. The higher the time frame, the higher the risk, but the higher reward. You also get fewer trades as you go up in the time frame spectrum.

I use a small 1 point stop on most all my trades or less, but that is me. I know some in my group use 5 ticks. That is fine, but I urge all to move there stops up with price as things go your way. I like to scale out and put myself in a no loose situation and I teach that too.

I don’t only offer the trading course, I work with each trader, to not only answer there questions, but to explain it and call it out during the live market, so you can see the same thing on the screen live. I will work with any trader as long as it takes to fully understand how he or she can use the Sniper Day Trading method through screen sharing technology over Skype.

If you have questions, feel free to contact me through Skype, my screen name is SniperDayTrading. Have a great weekend.

Can you say “REVERSAL DAY”

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Today is Monday, October 26th and the markets took investors for quite a ride today.

Yesterdays blog, I stated that it appeared that we had broken the down-trend late in Fridays trading and a move back up to the 1086 + level was likely. That is exactly what happened in this mornings session. Here is the quote from yesterday.

It looks like the down-trend has been broken but we really still need to get over the last minor pivot high at 1080.50 . Once that is taken out we will have a good chance to get back up to 1086 + in quick fashion.

Well, the break came on the open, in quick fashion, I might add and did shoot up to 1086 +, with the plus being another 5 points for a total of about 12 points in the first 35 minutes. This is from the cash S&P.

The next move after that came at 7:37 & 8:14 am, West Coast time. The move at 8:14 was real nice. It cut right through all the stops from the mornings open like a hot knife through butter and kept on going to take out the critical support I mentioned from Thursdays pivot low. In the S&P E-Mini’s, it broke about 9 points past the low, before it pulled up to take a breath. Over the last 5 trading days, the momentum in the hourly cash S&P market has been in a down-trend and still is as of now.

Today we saw a 27 S&P point swing from high to low, that is a lot. Currently the cash S&P support is about 7 points lower from its current level. The next support comes in at around 1045-46. The short-term momentum is pointing to the downside but the daily and weekly is still up. This is where you have opposing forces at work from different time frames. Who will win the battle. You really need to let the market decide this one  and go along for the ride.

Volitility move, showed up right on time !

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Today is Wednesday, October 21st and the markets really got going today.

The direction was, well, exactly like I thought, in that the first move after the open was a nice move up. At that point we would have put in a pivot high and  a pivot low. The move after that was going to determine the direction of the trend and when broken it was going to be with increased volatility. That was pretty much what I said was going to happen, and it did. I will say, I did not know yesterday, which way the market was going to break after the first big move up as I said. I could see a push up, as a natural rhythm flow of market action after the open, again that is what we got. The move after that was the key. As I was talking about in some of last weeks posts, “If this, then that”, statements.

I could not see two moves in advance, but really only one first, then after that, the second one. You can not get ahead of the market, but you can rehearse in your mind what you will do if this happens or that happens. So, the second move took place at 11:15 am West Coast time Short, we had a reaction move back up off that and really got the break that took off at 12:14. The next 45 minutes, we saw a 23 point drop in the S&P to the low. That is a lot. I pointed it out to my subscribers in their daily turning points video. You saw where to get in exactly and where to get out exactly on the smaller time frames

We react to what takes place in the market, not the other way around, that does not work. In chess you need to look ahead and be ready for what your opponent will throw at you, but being proactive and seeing the potential ahead of time, in either direction, you will not be taken by surprise, but be ready to act without fear. You can only really play the move that is in front of you at the time, but ready for surprises.

I don’t have time to show the turning points here today as I said I would. I am traveling in the Bay Area and will be back in my office in the next day or two. So lets hope for tomorrow when I have more time.

“TURNING POINTS”, what are they ?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Today is Tuesday, October 20th and the market hit a little soft patch today.

Currently the S&P 500 Index is sitting on parallel support from the last 13 trading days. The support is identified by drawing a line across the tops of the recent move. Hold the same trajectory and place a parallel line at the bottom or base of the move and extend that out. That brings you to where we hit today and moved right off of it earlier in the session.

This support needs to hold and is in a similar place from a few trading days ago. Tomorrow will be a very important day to watch. If the trend is going to continue, we would probably move up early on off of support, then later in the session pull back to form a pivot. Once that pivot is formed, we will have a pivot below and a pivot above. The direction is going to be decided by a break of one of those pivots and that move should be sizable.

Currently the weekly trend is up, the daily trend is up and the hourly trend is down. So if the hourly would turn up, it is going to signify a continuation of the more dominant trend. That is how a trader should look and the market if you ask me. There are many converging signals all in different time frames, pulling and pushing against one another, but if you know how to structure yourself around the natural rhythm of the market instead of trying to impose your will on the it, you will do much better.

Over the last 5 trading days, the market has not really made any progress. If you look at an hourly chart, you can see the highs and lows and conclude that we have not made any significant progress higher only slightly. One of the reasons for this is what I call “Rotation”. The market is moving from strong hands and passing itself over to weak hands. You may ask why is that so or what exactly do you mean. I will explain.

There are many traders who have bought in at lower prices and have substantial profit, strong hands. They have the ability to let the price breath and take advantage of the larger overall trend, it has been nice. But there are so many people out there who have not been able to participate for a variety of reasons, with probably the biggest one being fear. They did not want to come in before because of all the negative talk, previous losses from last year or in the early months of this year. They have been burned and do not want to let that happen again, so this time they will be sure the market is going to move up before they get back in. These people are called “Weak Hands”. This group has been taught that you buy on a pull back and they have been doing that. Thus the reason the market has not gone down and has not gone up. The strong hands are getting out, selling to the weak hands.

This group does not have profit built up or in the market. At the first sign of trouble these people will again make an emotional decision and decide to sell once a large selloff becomes apparent and will again lose money. It is very predictable behavior and is something that can be capitalized on. It is sorry to say, but one persons panic is another persons windfall. It is all about positioning and know where those tipping points are.  There exit is your entry but in the opposite direction taking advantage of the stops. Often, I can see those tipping points coming in advance and get my order in just before the panic.

On a micro level, daytrading the swings is the exact same thing, but your competition is just a different audience, but the exact same principles at work. I have named these market swings differently over time but they are all the same. Some of the terms I have used and are original are; “pressure Points” , “Tipping Points” and “Turning Points”

I have been fond of the term, “Turning Points” and have on occasion posted a short clip of where those were in the trading day, but void of any explanation. The explanation is how I come up with those points on a consistent basis and how you could to. For those who are apart of the “Sniper Day Trading” group, that is exactly what they are getting with the rational behind it, clearly explained.

If two traders in my group were looking at the same chart understanding the method and each identified the turning points that they saw, the two traders would come up with the same turning points, a beautiful thing. The only difference would be which trades the trader took and which ones he let pass to wait for a stronger signal.  That is why I believe my training program is so powerful. I might add that those turning points are definitely tradable and all have no more than a 4 tick stop or even less, with a very high degree of accuracy. That is not something you will see everyday in the daytrading world.

A computer can not achieve what the mind can accomplish, because trading is an emotional endeavor and is ever changing. I will leave you with this today. Examine your progress and ask yourself if you are where you would like to be. If you get anything other than yes, you need to look for answers and find what can work for you before you lose your trading capital to other traders. Slow down and keep your capital safe until you feel you have a solid plan to extract what you need on a daily basis. Home runs are nice, but singles and doubles will improve the one thing that counts in this business, “THE BOTTOM LINE”.

Come back tomorrow to see some of those “Turning Points” I talked about today.

“Keep An Open Mind”, while trading the S&P’s

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Today is Wednesday April 1st and I had another quick day of profits.

I start out today with a nice one point trade short for half of my now higher daily goal, followed up with another 1 point trade just after that, for a quick $1,000 dollar daily goal in just a few minutes. With the commission cost it put me just above $900 and I  needed one more small trade to at least get over a thousand. The next trade came to me very nicely for yet another 1 point gain, but with only 4 contracts on board to safely give me a little over $1,100 for about 20 minutes of trading.

That is what I like about trading the way that I do. I have said this before a few times, but it bears repeating. No struggle, just a few quick easy high percentage trades. When checking the stats for how long I was in the market to get my trades today, my computer told me that it was only 3 minutes of actual in the market trading time. That is an average of 1 minute per trade. That is COOL.

When you are in the market for a long period of time, you do have higher exposure, no matter what the circumstances are. More time in the market = more risk – period. If you know what you are doing, you can minimize that risk with stop loss orders, but none the less, you have more risk.

Now, I get to do other things, that can be very rewarding to me. Time is something that you can never get back, once it is lost. You can always make more money, but if you invest yourself in things that can bring you personal dividends, you can look back at your life and have no regrets. That is the way I see it. The key to making something like this a possibility is knowing how to trade, so that you can pick up your points for the day. If you need a mentor to help you through the process, send me an email and we can discuss how I can help you put it together.

Here is a little trading tip for the day:   KEEP AN OPEN MIND WHILE TRADING

In looking back at the one thing that I thought gave me the most trouble in my trading, that would have to be keeping an open mind as to overall direction and not having a bias. This is one of the secret killers that is always lurking, looking to destroy trading accounts.

If you make a decision in your mind that the larger trend is going up or should go up, then you will not be able to see the short setups that are right in front of you. The same is true in the opposite direction. As far as the bigger time frame, leave your mind open and let the market tell you which way it wants to go. If you have a strong conviction about direction and things start to change, you will not see it. I GUARANTEE IT.

You will become blind as to what is happening, because your subconscious mind will not let you see. You have created a mental block as to the current reality of the present price action. On the other hand, if you hold your opinion to general market direction lightly, if things change, you will have no mental blocks to overcome when you need to take a trade in the opposite direction. The market trades on a two way street and you need to see cars coming in the other direction or else you will have a HEAD ON CRASH, with the outcome producing casualties.

Example:  In a past struggle, I remember thinking that the market should go down and I was looking for a short set up. I place a trade and get stopped out. I still think the market is going down, but my timing was off, so I re-enter short and again get stopped out. Something is wrong and I need to stop and check market direction because I am fighting the trend. That is what I should do, but I still have in my mind that this market should be going down any moment now and you try and short again. What do you think happens after that? Stopped out again. If I would have taken the correct action, like I mentioned above, I need to stop and assess the larger time frame and wait to trade in the correct overall direction.

The moral of the story, KEEP AND OPEN MIND TO OVERALL DIRECTION and don’t let this happen to you.

What can SniperDayTrading do for you?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Today is Friday March 27th and I had another smooth day trading the S&P.

I had an interesting day today, in that I did not start trading the size that I wanted to, because I did not see great price action at the time I started trading. I put my first trade on at 8:12 am West Coast time, but it was not good enough for me to put the size on, so I waited. I did make a few nice trades and had a few small losses, working my equity up to around $1,000 in a little over 30 minutes.

I decided to take a break and do some teaching with a student of mine and came back later, after the market had a chance to change up its price action with a few new reads. At around 11:56 am, I put on a trade with 5+5 contracts, for a total of 10, at the same price of 813.75, and rode that up for 5 solid points of gain. I did not scale out of the trade, but just rode it up for all that it gave me.

The trade lasted only about 6 minutes.  That trade added $2,500 dollars to the $ 1,000 that I already had, for a nice add on trade, taking me to $3,500 for the day. Once prices got over 815.50, there were other forces from higher time frame charts working to push the market higher. If you look back at your charts to that time, you may see what I am talking about.

As far as the broad market is concerned, the Index’s are still in a solid uptrend on the daily, with some overhead resistance on the Dow coming in a little over 8,000. There was very little pull back on the way up, which tells me that when the market does stop, there will be a nice reactionary move back down to the middle. In order for this uptrend to stay intact, the Dow will have to stay above 7,700 and the S&P above 813 on the cash, which is only a few points below where we currently are.

That is how I currently see it – you might view it differently. The maximum I see for the S&P is in the 840 range, before we see a pull back, but since we are very close to support right now, the 813 needs to hold on the cash market.

Below are some questions from someone interested in my method.  I have answered all of these questions before, but I will do it again for everyone’s benefit.

I watch your videos on your blog and have some questions.Do you always use a trend-line break of some sort for entries?

Are the entries orders stop or limit orders and where are they placed?

I see reference to 5 tick stops. Doesn’t onessuccess rate have to be quite high when targeting 3-4 ticks with a 5 tick stop?

Do you offer any training beyond the blog videos?

Answer to #1 &2  ) I almost always look for some sort of trend line break to enter a trade. It may be that a pattern is developing, like a triangle or any other pattern. Upon the break or at a back fill point, you can enter the trade. I do occasionally enter on a buy stop, but that is not very often. So the limit order is what I most often use. By using limit orders, I have missed trades by not getting filled, but that does not bother me too much because I only need to wait for the next trade. If I extend myself too much by placing buy stop orders or sell stop orders to get into a trade, I sometimes need to take the trade farther to get filled, and expose myself to greater risk by getting stopped out. Most of the orders I place, I quickly move my stop up to 4 ticks, but when I do place a buy stop entry order or sell stop entry order,  that is when I find I need the extra tick, so as not to get stopped out on a back fill of the original break out. It is not the same every time and would greatly depend on current price action.

Answer to #3 )  I use 4 and 5 tick stops almost always, rarely anything more. I see where you might be concerned with such a small stop – not many people can trade with their stop being this small. There are a few keys to being successful at this business. One is good timing. I have a set number of conditions that need to be present before an order should be placed. When those conditions are present, there is usually an 80% chance that I will hit 1 point of profit. My ultimate trading goal is to hit 2-3 points profit per day, every day. You only need to make 2 or 3 of these trades to make that happen. If you see a bigger potential of a move, you can scale out of your trade at, say, 1 point for the first half and something higher, like 2 points, just like I did yesterday. If I see a much larger potential, which does not always happen, I will elect to stay with the trade and have it give me whatever is in it, as with today’s trade of 5 points. It really all just depends on price action. That is why it takes time to learn the market ins and outs. There is no quick and easy way to master all that the market can throw at you in a short period of time. It can take years. But on the other hand, for someone who is satisfied with a daily income of 2 to 3 points profit, you can simplify the process a great deal.

Yes, you will miss big moves and yes, you could have made a lot more on certain trades, but if your goal is to make MONEY, then new traders need to be realistic in what they can expect from the markets.

If I place a trade and I only get the small move of 3 ticks on that trade, I would initially have my stop no more than a 4 tick stop. If the trade moves in my favor by 2 ticks, I move my stop to 3 ticks, and then maybe to 2 ticks, until I get filled. I am riding my small stop up with the move in my direction and hitting my small target 80+ percent of the time with a 3 tick fill. If you do the math, it comes out very nicely. In just a couple of trades, you are done.

Two trades for 1 point and 1 trade for 3/4 point, trading say only 4 contracts, will almost always give you $500 dollars in less than 30 minutes. That comes to $1,000 dollars an hour. Who makes that kind of money these days? The key is that you keep your personal struggle to get your daily goal to a minimum and then come back tomorrow to do it again.

As I wrote in my blog a couple of days ago, it can be difficult for traders to be able to identify which trades are going to run and which ones are only good for 1 or 2 points. The best way to handle that is to just trade everything for 1 or 2 points max. This will give you the opportunity to keep your focus on correct timing and not over thinking and analyzing for the big 3 or 4 to one profit ratio trade.

Answer #4) I can discuss with individuals interested in personal mentoring, one on one. I will see what your trading level is and go from there. It can be that my trading method does not work for everyone because of past trading habits that they may not be able to change. It will depend on the individual and how teachable they are. For some people it might be like putting a round peg in a square hole, and my style of trading does not match their personality.

But if you come with an open mind and want to learn what it is that I know, I would bet that I can help you become profitable. I can spend personal screen time going over my method so that you understand how it works and what it is that we look for in a trade setup. If you have Trade Station, I can set your screen up with everything I use to trade. If you are using Ninja Trader, then I can also set your screen up to very closely match my settings on Trade Station. Both are excellent platforms for trading the S&P. You will have access to my trading room for 2-3 months, where you will hear and see me put my trades on. I would want you to learn and not only follow my trades so I will have you understanding why I am looking to take each trade. Very important. We all need to think for ourselves. This is what will make good traders for the long term.

I have a trader that I am currently working with, and in this last week  he is hitting over 80 percent on all of his trades, targeting for only one point. He is posting profit of about $1,000 dollars a day. He is getting it. There is still more work to do for him, but he is working hard on mastering his timing. He does better at long trades than short, but I am working with him to help him see where the correct timing is for those short trades. His concern is not looking for the monster trade of 5-10 points, but just cranking out 1 point trades with 4 contracts. What more could anyone ask for.
